 In December 2025, Abatete witnessed a historic celebration as the community marked the 5th Ofala Festival of His Royal Majesty Igwe Engr. Chinyelugo Emeka Effobi. The event also coincided with the monarch’s 20th anniversary on the throne and the official commissioning of the new permanent royal palace.

The colorful celebration attracted sons and daughters of Abatete from across Nigeria and the diaspora, along with dignitaries, traditional leaders, and well-wishers. The new palace was built and donated to the community by one of Abatete’s distinguished sons, Chief Nathan Agbata (Owelle Abatete). The ceremony highlighted unity, cultural pride, and community development within Abatete.

 In October 2025, the Abatete Development Organisation (ADO) organized a youth empowerment program at the Abatete Civic Centre. During the event, about 100 youths received start-up tools, including sewing machines, catering kits, and other equipment to help them begin small businesses.

The initiative aimed to reduce unemployment and encourage entrepreneurship among young people in the community. The beneficiaries expressed joy and appreciation for the opportunity to build sustainable livelihoods.

 A newly constructed 2-kilometre road project was recently commissioned in Abatete, improving accessibility and transportation within the town. The road was built by community philanthropist Dr. Victor Iloegbunam, demonstrating the role of private individuals in supporting local development projects.

The commissioning ceremony celebrated community effort and highlighted ongoing improvements in infrastructure within Abatete.

 Members of the Abatete community living in Abuja recently held a meeting attended by Anambra State’s Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor. During the gathering, discussions focused on developments in Anambra State, security improvements, and opportunities for collaboration between the diaspora community and the state government.

 Like many communities in southeastern Nigeria, Abatete has experienced security challenges in recent years. In 2024, gunmen reportedly attacked communities in parts of Anambra State including Abatete and Ukpo, targeting security personnel and causing casualties. Authorities have since increased security operations in the area to address these threats. 

 Indigenes of Abatete living in the diaspora continue to play an important role in the development of their hometown. During a recent virtual meeting of the Abatete diaspora association, members discussed strategies for supporting ongoing projects in the community.

The diaspora group pledged continued support for education, healthcare initiatives, and infrastructure development in Abatete.
